Daily Reflections That Shine Light on Personal Darkness

Ninety Days of God's Goodness:
Daily Reflections That Shine Light on Personal Darkness
By Randy Alcorn
(Multnomah Books, 2011)

Life throws challenges at us, evil and suffering is seen everywhere, so many hardships happen in our daily lives. When we face the challenges life throws, our view of God’s can become cloudy. We easily lose sight of His purpose, presence, kindness, and love.
In 90 Days of God’s Goodness, Randy Alcorn gives us daily readings that help shine light into the darkness that is surrounding us. He uses Scripture with short articles about real people, including his own experience, to help us see that God is still there and will help us through this dark time in our life. You can read each entry in about 5-10 minutes.  Each daily devotion emphasizes a different subject, such as: #6—Suffering Is No Accident; #14—Our Refuge and Strength; #29 Shared Suffering; #36—God’s Purpose Prevails;  #49—Surrendering to God’s Wisdom; #55—Trusting God’s Plan; #71—Peace and Joy in Adversity; #80—God’s Tears.
Alcorn shares with us that we need to be prepared for the trials that will come into our lives before they come. He stresses that when life is calm, we should take time during that stage to deepen and strengthen our faith for the challenges that will come. We shouldn’t wait until suffering comes to start learning to face it.
I requested this book, because of who the author is and the subject. Whatever you are going through in your life right now, this book will help you. Alcorn shows us in this short 90 day book how to face our life full, with courage and joy. I give this book 5-star s.

Scars of a Chef

Scars of a Chef
The Searing Story of a Top Chef Marked Forever by the Grit
and Grace of Life in the Kitchen
Rick Tramonto (Author)
Lisa Jackson (Contributor)
John Folse (Foreword)

Rick Tramonto—Chef and cookbook author has won acclaim for his restaurants and cookbooks. In this book, his memoir Rick takes you into the kitchen to show you the life of a chef and also from where he has come. Tramonto’s story is about success, failure and so much more.
Growing up a dysfunctional family in Rochester, N.Y., he started working for Wendy’s after he quit high school when he was almost 17. On his climb to success he has worked with many talented chefs and also very temperamental ones. No matter what life threw him, he always seems to rise up again.
Scars of the Chef is a very inspirational book for all to read, especially anyone who ever questioned the value of determination in accomplishing our goals. Rick tells of the challenges and sacrifices he went through to achieve success.
When I started reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down. The way it is written just kept me interested until I finished. I wanted it to go on and tell me more. I’d highly recommend this book to everyone. I gave it a 5-star rating.
I received this complimentary copy of this book from Tyndal House Publishers if I would post a review on amazon.com or some other web site.

The awesome She Speaks Conference is offering several scholarships so people can attend this conference in July.

I would like th opportunity to go to this conferenc since it would help me be able to write more interesting articles on my blog. What a great time I know they have, because anytime a group of Christian ladies get together, the Lord speaks so powerful. You can learn from others experiences. Since I am disabled and have a limited income I can't afford to go on my own but if I won I'd be able to go.

The scholarship includes the conference fees, all materials, training classes, meals, and a room for several nights during the conference.  I would have a chance to meet lots of Christian authors and speakers. Since I live about 4 hours away from the conference, I believe it would be easy for me to get there.

God Bless all of you. Thanks for making this possible.

Hugs and Prayers!

When the Hurt Runs Deep: Healing and Hope for Life's Desperate Moments

When the Hurt Runs Deep: Healing and Hope for Life's Desperate Moments
By Kay Arthur
Why? Why me? Why now? I don’t deserve this! Will the pain ever go away? God are you out there? God don’t just stand still do something!  What is left to hope for? In our lives we go through much pain, heartache, trials, and storms. We wonder if we can take any more. Kay Arthur’s When the Hurt Runs Deep: Healing and Hope for Life’s Desperate Moments lets us know we can get through any of these things.
Through Scripture, Kay shares with you twelve Healing Truths that will help you understand and walk through the Hurts of life. Kay shows you the way toward genuine healing. She shares with us how these Healing Truths have helped her go through all the pain, hurts, trials and storms in her own life.
To me Kay wrote this book to help us heal from all our hurts and to let us know that we do have Hope.
I was so privileged to be able to read this book. I had wanted to read it every since it came out and thanks to WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group I received it for free if I’d write a review on it.
I have been through so many of storms, trials, pain, hurt, lost hope in my life. I have done several of Kay’s Bible studies, but never read one of her books. I knew that this gifted Bible teacher had to have the answers to help anyone go through the Hurts in their life.  We are told how God can heal any hurt we have, no matter how painful, how deep it runs. This book will help you heal and lead you to understanding God’s unconditional love. Thanks so much Kay for sharing your hurts to help us see that with God we can get through the Hurts that Run Deep.
This book includes and Individual/Small Group Study Guide.
