When I chose Lazarus Awakening: Finding Your Place in the Heart of God, it was my second choice. I had put in for another book that the web site approved. When I went to check back on if it had been mailed, I couldn’t find it. So I selected Lazarus Awakening and waited again. I had read about this book, but had never personally read a book written by Joanna Weaver. Since this was my second choice, I wasn’t really excited about reading it. Much to my surprise, when the book came and I read the blurb and that it also included a 10-week Bible study. I became a little more interested. After I started reading, I was so amazed. This was so different than what I thought it would be. I was actually “stepping on my toe” as some of us say. So I decided that God had to have been involved on my request getting lost.

Joanna was asking questions and giving me such perfect answers to questions I had been asking myself and not getting any answers. Such questions as: Does God really love me? He won’t come through with that? No way! Why does everything seem so dark? I can’t see any light! I am trying so hard to please God but I just can’t seem to hear from Him. So many question and answers from John 11 that I had never thought of before. Sometimes it is so amazing to see what someone else can pull out of something you have studied so many times and never seen before.

Do you feel dead inside? The whole world spinning and you see only darkness. Do you think maybe Lazarus felt that way?  Lazarus Awakening: Finding Your Place in the Heart of God is based on the biblical story of Lazarus, the one whom Jesus brought back to life after being dead and buried for 4 days. Joanna shows us some of us have gotten ourselves into a spiritual tomb and aren’t really living. You will see more of God’s unconditional love and how much He wants us to experience His joy and an intimate relationship with Him. Joanna also tells how she has felt and how God has walked her through some of the same trials.

Included in the chapters are highlighted comments from others that go along with the chapter title. These give you a chance to see someone else’s view and also a chance to go deeper into what you are learning.

The Bible study included in the back of the book is really great. This will be a good small group study to do with some friends. The questions go along with each chapter and also include more in-depth questions for you to go over on the topic of that chapter.

Even though Lazarus Awakening is the third of a trilogy, I feel it definitely stands alone. I hope to be able to read the other books in this trilogy (Mary Martha and Lazarus).

I know I will be rereading Lazarus Awakening and completing the Bible study.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars and have posted a book review on www.amazon.com and www.goodreads.com.
